Situated in quite a bustling street but looking very inconspicuous is this tiny little French patisserie. All around it are restaurants and bars that get really busy on weekend nights. A passer by in a hurry would walk by without taking a second glance. However, if you do, you will be well rewarded. I've heard many of my colleagues rave about their cakes and one day, I grab a friend and went scouting for it.
La Renaissance is a family owned business which started in 1974. It's founder is Paris trained Pierre Charkos. It wasn't easy to find but what greeted us when we found it was a amazing display of colours and rich decadence. Regular patrons come in and out every few minutes, seemingly guarding their well kept secret.

The cakes are slightly on the ex side but what you get is quality and you can really taste the difference in the ingredients used. 1 slice is literally really rich without being overpowering. We finally settled on 1 each and couldn't wait to start eating.
Larme de Gaugin
Exotic tear-drop shaped cake; light creamy mixed berry mousse, encased in a decorative almond sponge and top with glazed mixed berries.
The taste was amazing. Rich and yet not too sweet. The almond sponge was light and yet full of flavour.
What can I say, my hand couldn't stop taking spoonful after spoonful. The contrast in the rich taste and the melt in your mouth texture is like performing a dance in your mouth.
I am looking forward to trying other cakes. Especially the tiramisu.

It's so true, I've walked pas the shop and never noticed it until fairly recently. I really like their little courtyard, it's very peaceful out there.
