Goddard's Pie House, Greenwich

Pies, there is just something about pies that draws you to eat them.

The brown crust that encases the juicy filling, thicker at the top that is both crispy and flaky. Bite into it and the creamy filling threatens to drip away with the waft of hot steam emanating from it.

The standard sizes are perfect for a street snack which you can munch on while holding it with your hands walking down the street.

I love a good pie and it has been ages since I had one. So one day, my foodie-in-crime and I decided to head to Greenwich after hearing on the grapevine of a place that makes good pies which has been around for ages.

A bit of research online and I think I found it. Goddard's pie house started in 1890 by Alfred Goddard in Evelyn Street, Deptford, London. After some generations, the pie shop closed in 2006 and is now available from a booth situated in a small food market area in Greenwich.

Off we went in search of this place, a building we were not greeted with, instead it was a food cart. It did take us a bit of time to find it too.

We decided to order the traditional minced beef pie with mashed potatoes and gravy.

How was it? Ordinary at best, left feeling deflated. Guess my search continues.

Will I recommend: No
Will I come back: No
Have I had better: Yes

  1. This looks rather disgusting I have to say... but then again I am not big on pie anyway. Let me know when you find the best pie though!
