C2S Bakes: Baked Apple Tart with Salted Caramel Sauce

o88

I’ve always loved baking and sometimes the baking bug hits me and I get on a baking streak! This was one such time after seeing the results of the Salted Caramel Apple Tarts on the blog Gratinee, who is fabulous I must say.

I love anything salted caramel and this immediately stuck to my head and wouldn't go away. I managed to squeeze in and bake this amidst packing for my Easter holiday away that was happening with a super early morning flight in a few hours.

With time not being on my side, I skipped making the pastry which cut down preparation and baking to under 90 minutes. The result? It was really delicious and even though I made an entire tray, it was devoured by the dinner party in less than half an hour!

The combination of the multiple- textures from the pastry and the apples, hot and cold sensation from the warm tart and chilled ice cream and lastly the salty, savoury and buttery sweetness was just a delight!

I am loving this recipe.

Recipe (from Gratinee):

Pastry
1 Roll   All Butter puff pastry

Salted caramel:
100 g   sugar
50 g     butter
Juice     half a lemon
3 g       salt

Preparation:
1. Roll out the puff pastry and cut it to fit your baking sheet.

2. Slice the apples into thin slices and arrange them on top of the puff pastry.

3. To make the salted caramel sauce: Melt the butter and sugar together over medium low heat. I find using a whisk helps. Add the lemon juice and blend.

4. Drizzle the salted caramel sauce with about 2/3 of the salted caramel or however much you like.
5. Bake in a 350F (180C) oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is a deep gold.

6. Cool and cut into slices. Serve with vanilla ice cream drizzled with the rest of the salted caramel.
