Moscato by Barefoot

(All photos are courtesy of Barefoot PR)

Barefoot wine recently launched their new Moscato wine and I was sent a bottle to try.

A bit of history on Barefoot wines, it started off as a 'garage wine' in the sixties. Its founders at that point wanted to produce wine that was enjoyed by everyone from those who are tasting wine for the first time to hard-nosed aficionados.

Along with the bottle came four recipes that you can use the Moscato with, two cocktails, one savoury dish and a dessert recipe. My initial plan was to hold a party with my girls and recreating the recipes and tasting the wine. Unfortunately, we couldn't coordinate a time and that it did not materialise.

However, I found the next best occasion for it, celebrating mine and another friend's birthday with a home cooked meal and lots of catching up and laughter and wine to celebrate of course!

After dinner, we took out the chilled bottle and poured some into our wine glasses. The Moscato was very easy to drink. Not too sweet which was aided by the gas bubbles giving it a crisp finish.

After eating some ice cream and sipping the Moscato after, you could taste the fruitiness of the peach and apricots but it wasn't overpowering. I enjoyed this Moscato by Barefoot and so did the others at the party. However, don't expect it to have the complexities that usually comes with traditional wine or say a pricier moscato.

I can see how it can be incorporated into sweet or savoury recipes, please click here for the suggested recipes. I think though that I would rather drink it straight as it is perfect for summer and barbecues!

Barefoot Moscato is currently retailing at £6.49.

  1. I got some too, I was hoping to love it but... it reminded me of Schloer non-alcoholic grape juice drink! I liked the light sweetness and bubbles but there was absolutely no complexity of flavour, as there is in other sweet sparklings and it tasted so much like a soft drink I might as well just buy a soft drink.

I only drink sweeter wines so I had high hopes but was disappointed!
