Pancakes on The Rocks, Darling Harbour

Pancakes on The Rocks opened up recently at Darling Harbour. All excited, I trotted happily there to try out their new venue. There wasn't a huge queue and we were seated almost right away. I have a feeling that this wouldn't last long and soon, we will have to wait in a long queue in the future. Nice decor, the wood panels brings out an earthy feel that seems to go well with the atmosphere.

As usual, the one drink that I always order is the Lime soda. This is lime flavoured fizzy drink with a nice healthy dollop of ice cream. Some people like to eat the ice cream and drink the lime soda separately. Lately, I prefer to mix it all together which results in a creamy fizzy drink. Be careful during mixing as the drink might overflow during that process.

Mains - Char Grilled Pork Ribs $22.95

We ordered the Pork Ribs in BBQ sauce. The rib was tender and the chips was great! However, the sauce didn't seem to have marinated and blend well with the ribs which resulted in this being average. The flavour wasn't as enhanced as it could be in a good dish of ribs!

Pancakes - Vanilla and Choc Surprise $10.95

We ordered the Vanilla and Choc Surprise which is 1 buttermilk and 1 chocolate pancake with a scoop of vanilla and chocolate ice cream each, drizzled with chocolate sauce. Wow! The buttermilk pancake was really rich and creamy, bordering on greasy but not quite. It was literally rich with butter and milk. The chocolate pancake was really good as well, thick and rich chocolate flavour.
Maybe because this is a new branch and it's not racing speed busy, the quality of the pancakes is definitely good. Sometimes, when you go to the branch at The Rocks, the immense crowd results in an extremely busy kitchen which can result in the quality of the pancakes decreasing a little. Don't get me wrong, it is still good but as a regular patron, you can definitely taste the difference on an extremely busy night and just a normal night.
Good pancakes and the service was excellent. We spilled a drink at my table quite inconspicuously but the wait staff noticed straightaway and came armed with a cloth all ready to help. Definitely a place that I will always come back to.

Nick's Seafood

Always wondered how different food taste in terms of freshness and flavour when you go to the Sydney Fish Market and say a seafood restaurant.
After some conversation and wine, we were ready to order.
Entree - Crab Ravioli with wilted spinach and pernod cream

This was really good, the crab was extremely fresh, I now believe when they say the chefs from good restaurants go to the seafood markets to nearly every morning to get the best catch! It went really well with the Pernod cream and spinach. Quite refreshing, the ravioli was quite delicate and the cream wasn't too heavy! Just right for an entree.
Mains - Grilled Fillet Steak & King Prawn
Dessert - Warm double chocolate pudding with white chocolate ice cream
Dessert - Warm apple and blackberry crumble with Calvados ice cream
The crumble was crunchy but the pastry itself was just slightly too thick. That could partly be due to the apple and blackberry filling inside having made the pastry a little soggy but it's still pretty good.

My friend and I made an agreement to order one dessert each and split half/half so that we can try both! The chocolate pudding was crispy on the outside and gooey inside when you break into it. Mixing the hot chocolate with the ice cream was just divine!

I managed to get a chance to try out Nick's seafood at Darling Harbour for lunch. It was a sunny day, perfect weather to be sitting at their outdoor patio.
