Yummy Sushi NYC: Mind boggling tofu noodles!

Picture 071

I’ve been lucky, according to the weatherman, I should have been greeted by either a cold snow storm in New York or my flight from London might have potentially been cancelled. None of that happened but I did suffer some delays so that I arrived in New York a lot later than I expected. My plan to head to Chinatown to check out the Chinese New Year vibe was thwarted.

Barely had I checked in to the hotel and off I set off to get some food for my hungry tummy, Yes, BA did not feed me well! I was seconds away from ordering a hot dog from a street stall when I spied the Radio City Hall sign down the road. Took me but a second to turn my heels and headed towards the sign which is located at the Rockefeller Centre.

Down to the concourse I went to look for a Japanese shop called Yummy Sushi! I was so excited that it was still here and it did not take me long to order an Unagi noodle soup ($9.83) and adding $1 extra to have the tofu noodles. I can’t tell you how I’ve been craving this tofu noodles. I tried it for the first time two years ago when I came to New York.

After a quick wait, I was handed my bowl of noodle soup! I couldn’t wait to tuck in. The tofu noodles were exactly as I remembered! The texture was springy with an incredible bite. You can literally feel the strands snapping and hitting your mouth when you bite and chew it. I have never had anything like this before and other than at Yummy Sushi, I have not found this tofu noodles anywhere else.

It was so good and went really well with the soup that had lashings of soy sauce to give it a slight salty flavour. The unagi was succulent as well. A simple hot noodle soup to warm the body and tease the tongue, perfect for a winter’s day.

If you are in New York, definitely try out this tofu noodles.

  1. I'm not the biggest tofu fan and I'm not sure how I'd handle this dish. That said they are noodles and they do look good!

  3. Mr Noodles - I've not found this noodles anywhere else and they are definitely worth a try at least once. Is like chewy bouncy fishball texture but in noodle form!

Pigpigscorner - I've not heard of it either till I discovered it in NY. =)
